Xbox Developer Direct 2026 has officially been announced, confirming the return of Microsoft’s now-annual showcase focused on upcoming first-party games. The livestream will take place on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 10:00 AM PT, with viewers able to watch via IGN and IGN’s official YouTube channel.
The announcement follows earlier comments from Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty, who previously hinted that the Developer Direct format would continue. Microsoft has now confirmed that Playground Games will play a major role in the event, showcasing both of its highly anticipated projects.
Fable and Forza Horizon 6 Gameplay Reveals Confirmed
Microsoft has confirmed that Fable and Forza Horizon 6 will both be featured during Xbox Developer Direct 2026. These two titles are among Xbox’s biggest first-party releases expected this year, and neither has received an in-depth gameplay showcase so far.
According to Microsoft, the event will deliver a proper look at gameplay for both games. The official Fable account also fueled excitement, stating that the team has been working on the project for a long time and is finally ready to reveal much more to players.
Additional Titles Joining the Showcase
In addition to Playground Games’ projects, Microsoft confirmed that Beast of Reincarnation will appear at the event. The action RPG is being developed by Game Freak, the studio best known for the Pokémon franchise, and was first revealed during the Xbox Showcase in June last year.
No Confirmation Yet for Other Xbox Projects
At the time of writing, Microsoft has not confirmed whether other major Xbox titles will appear. Games such as Gears of War: E-Day or the Unreal Engine 5 remake of Halo’s original campaign have not been officially listed as part of the showcase.
However, Xbox Developer Direct events typically include at least one unexpected reveal, leaving room for speculation. Some fans believe the event could feature Life is Strange: Reunion, especially given the franchise’s history with Xbox showcases.
A Busy Year Ahead for Xbox
With multiple high-profile releases planned for 2026, Xbox Developer Direct is shaping up to be a key event for Microsoft’s gaming lineup. More details are expected to emerge closer to the broadcast date.
