The eagerly awaited James Bond video game 007 First Light has had its release date postponed to 27 May 2026, two months later than its originally scheduled launch on 27 March.
This upcoming title marks the first James Bond video game since 2012’s 007 Legends. According to developer IO Interactive, known for the Hitman series, the game is already fully playable from start to finish, but additional time is required to “refine and polish” the experience.
The project is being developed in collaboration with Delphi Interactive, the studio also responsible for the upcoming FIFA game set to debut on Netflix ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
007 First Light will feature Patrick Gibson, recognized for his role in Dexter: Original Sin, portraying a young James Bond in an origin story that stands apart from both the films and novels. The narrative follows a 26-year-old Bond as he is recruited into MI6 and earns his 00 designation in a self-contained storyline.
During the Game Awards 2025, IO Interactive revealed that the game’s primary antagonist will be voiced and performed by Lenny Kravitz, the US singer.
Gameplay previews suggest influences from IO Interactive’s Hitman series, combined with the signature gadgets and cinematic set pieces that fans expect from Bond titles. However, some fan feedback under these trailers highlighted performance issues, including occasional frame rate drops and concerns about motion blur.
IO Interactive describes 007 First Light as its “most ambitious project to date,” emphasizing confidence in the game’s long-term success and expressing gratitude for the ongoing support and patience from the community since the initial reveal.
